A Day at Nelson's Landing

For my 24th birthday this year I took a trip out to Nelson's landing and soaked up the last of Summer!

Enjoying the last of hot Summer days at the Colorado River!

The sun shone down, reflecting rays of light off the turquoise tinted water of the Colorado River. I leaned back in the water, lifting my face to the sun. The steaks were defrosting on the top of the ice chest just a few feet away. I could hear the joyful noises of my much younger siblings splashing and playing in the water. Between the farm, commuting to work, and remodeling my historic farmhouse, there isn't a lot of time for adventures. ;P

That just made this adventure all the sweeter! We strapped the kayaks in, and got everyone loaded up to make the drive to Nelson's landing. We spent the day splashing, kayaking, and sun bathing! I recently got in my I Dream of Gingham swimsuit and skirt that I designed, and was SO excited to take them out for a final test run before launching them on the store! I loved how comfortable it was, and that the skirt made it look like an every day dress! We're all for versatility!

You can purchase the I Dream of Gingham skirt below, and the swimsuit further down towards the bottom of the post! Now, onto the adventure!

I was one of the first to hop into one of the kayaks and take off. The wind had picked up a bit so the water was a tad choppy....which admittedly just made it all the more fun! ;P Of course, our time there was much too short! I didn't even get a chance to really break out our fishing poles! Alas, just means we'll have to have that adventure on another day right?

Tips for Visiting Nelson's Landing

We happened to schedule our trip pretty decently, however it was still fairly crowded even when we went! We headed out there on a Thursday morning before labor day weekend. We probably drove into the cove around 11:30 and by 12:30 three more vehicles had shown up and settled in! A few people were saying that on the weekends it is absolutely wild with vehicles lining every inch of the road into the cove! We were grateful that we came in at a good time! If you have an all terrain vehicle, or (and I'm SO jealous if this is you...) a Jeep, then there are quite a few more coves that you can visit that area that are a little trickier for the general public to get to.

I'd recommend arriving a bit earlier than we did! That way you'll have time to enjoy the water and eat before more people start arriving! The water was the perfect temperature and early-mid September seemed to be just the right weather for a trip out there! Also, keep in mind that the cove is rocky. If you have sensitive feetsies or kiddos then you'll want some water shoes!

A Great Day Had by All

Over all, it was a great day had by everyone! My baby sister is an absolute FISH and was so happy to get out in the water with her little mermaid swimsuit! She of course wanted to go back out to visit as soon as she possibly could! If you take a trip out to Nelson's Landing be sure to come back and comment on this post! I would LOVE to hear about your adventure!
