4 Ways to Style a Cowboy Hat in 13 Seconds!
Today I'm showing you four of my favorite ways to style a cowboy hat!
I grew up to the sounds of Louis L'amour books drifting to where I lay under a pile of blankets in my bed. I was born, and raised about half my life in the heat of the Tucson, Arizona desert. Much of our family had settled here, close to the Mexico border where they came from. From years 0-3 what memories I have are memories of my dad in striped shirts, wranglers, and a cowboy hat running horses around the round pen.
And rattlers.....I remember a LOT of rattle snakes. Those things stick with a girl, ya know? My dad got out of the horse business shortly after and we moved into a subdivision, and he moved into cell-phones and software. I never forgot my roots though. I knew that one day, I would live a lifestyle like my ancestors one day. In the heat, in the desert, dirt under my nails and calluses on my hands, and a cowboy hat on my head. Plus cute animals...there had to be cute animals.
Of course, once I got that life....I didn't want to look like the fraud of a city girl I still felt like on the inside! I didn't know the first thing about Cowboy Hat etiquette and wester wear styling. What if I got called a... "buckle-bunny" *le gasp*
Well, first of all, we don't care about that anymore! And second of all, I'm going to teach you 4 ways to style-and wear-a cowboy hat with CONFIDENCE in this post. And darling always remember, if you ain't pissin' somebody off, you ain't doin' your job right! Let's get to gettin!
First Things First
Know What Hat to Wear When
The first step to styling a cowboy hat is picking the right hat for the right season! A straw hat for hot weather and a felt hat for cool weather! The rule of thumb stated in the video above is to wear straw hats from Easter to Labor day, and felt hats the rest of the time. There are also a few other bits of etiquette that apply to wearing cowboy hats. How to Style a Cowboy Hat with Jeans and a Tee
The most classic and simple way to style a cowboy hat, and the style I wear nearly every day! ESPECIALLY in Summer when I really need that extra shade! I love to pick a comfy t-shirt, sturdy jeans, my boots, and a belt and belt buckle. You can wear your hair down, or to be more practical but equally as cute, in one or two braids.

How to Wear a Cowboy Hat with a Dress
I really really love skirts and dresses! One of my favorite western dressy looks is to add accessories to a cute jean dress! I love jean dresses because they can be dressed up or down according to the occasion. I added a pair of vintage high-heeled leather boots, a kimono, woven jewelry, and my cowboy hat of course!

How to Wear a Cowboy Hat with a Swimsuit
It may sound odd at first to wear a cowboy hat with a swimsuit, but I like to think about things logistically! If it makes sense, and provides practical value beyond looking cute, I'm in! Hell let's be honest, I'm in even if it's just cute! When I went out to Nelson's Landing last week (you can read more about the trip here) I made sure to take my hat along with me. It kept the hot sun off my face and provided a nice amount of shade!

How to Wear a Cowboy Hat with a Boho Maxi Skirt
I love, love, LOVE, this style! It's one of my most frequent go-to outfits when I want to dress up just a little but still be comfortable! It's a super simple, t-shirt, skirt, and belt combination. I like to wear cropped tees or to tie my tee up so that I don't lost my waist line. I then add a cute belt and buckle. My tip here if you are petite, but need a belt that will fit your waist at it's smallest place, is to shop the kids section! I can usually find the perfect size there and the belts are a little less heavy so they don't drag the skirt down! For shoes you have a few options! Ankle boots, high heeled boots, or normal cowboy boots all go great with this outfit!
