DIY Farmhouse Industrial Chair Makeover

Before & After DIY Industrial Farmhouse Chair Makeover

Today I'm showing you behind the scenes of my DIY Farmhouse Chair Makeover!

I had never redone a piece of furniture before. As I looked at that chair for the first time, buried under moldy ceiling tiles that had fallen in on it, and rotted debris, I knew that this piece would shine with only a very little love! An old 70s office chair with ugly off-colored tweed cushions, and brown and gold base....perhaps you wouldn't have thought the same thing. I, however, was in love! And, seeing as how I got it for free with my 1900s farmhouse, it was worth the risk of messing it up! I had found it while remodeling the front porch, which you can read about here!

My first step was to dismantle everything. I carefully removed and saved the screws, took the cushions off, and began work! I spray painted the legs first, then taped the wood pieces on the top and spray painted that as well. After it had dried I covered the base cushion in painters drop cloth with a staple gun. I stained the wood pieces with a dark gel stain, then after everything had cured I reassembled it! It was a while before it got to be displayed in all it's glory though! It took a back seat to removing ceilings & old insulation, and I only just now was able to put it out on the porch when I redecorated it this past week.

My Industrial Farmhouse Chair Inspiration Images

Whenever I do a DIY project I immediately come up with a design in my head. Then, I go to Pinterest and look to see if I can find anything similar to what I'm picturing, to draw inspiration from! These two pics were my inspiration photos for this piece, although I knew I wanted mine to be just a tad more rustic! I also love finding inspiration on Youtube! One of my favorite furniture makeover youtubers is DIY Wife! ALL of her designs come out so upscale, and gorgeous! I included a video below for you to see for yourself!

We paid our mortgage 3X flipping furniture part time | DIY Wife

We challenged ourselves to see how much furniture we could flip on the side in one month (in response to losing a portion of our income due to Covid) and this part time "side hustle" allowed us to pay 3 months of our mortgage!
