If you're wanting to get more intentional about taking time to breathe, creating a yoga corner in your home is a great way to hold space for that intention! As a dancer growing up we were told over and over again by our teachers to take time to work on our flexibility goals daily! Then, when I became a dance teacher myself, I found that I was saying the very same thing to my students! Regardless of whether you are an aspiring professional dancer/teacher, or simply want to make your wellness and health a priority, taking time out of your day to increase your mobility,

and take a breather is one of the BEST things you can do for your health! I remember hosting my first stretch & breath dance class for women! It was mind blowing to me how leading them through a combination of ballet movements, yoga poses, and breathing exercises left them feeling rejuvenated and able to face the incredible opportunities they were experiencing in their daily lives! From mothers to teachers, they walked out of there feeling in tune with their bodies and their hearts! Of course taking a yoga class or dance class every day simply isn't a practical option for most of us!

Another Option: Why You Should Create a Yoga Corner in Your Home

Often, the best option (one I do myself!) is to create a routine in your day, even if just for 5 minutes where you take time to stretch! Of course, when I first started doing this, I was finding it really difficult to motivate myself to stop whatever I was working on, and BREATHE! I realized I needed to more intentional, and honor my desire to take care of myself! So, I spent a little bit of a Saturday afternoon putting together a beautiful yoga corner for my daily practice and I'm going to show you how to as well! Having a dedicated space set aside exclusively for this daily practice, created the BEST environment for me to do the very things I knew my body and mind NEEDED me to do.

How to Create a Yoga Corner | Tip #1 - Add a Mirror

When creating my yoga corner I picked a cute little section of my bedroom that had lovely natural light, and a great view of the sunrise as I like to do my yoga in the morning and my flexibility training at night! I started off with a super cute mirror that I mounted to the wall. You could of course just buy a tall mirror and lean it against the wall, or DIY your own like they did in this super cute video below! The DIY mirror instructions start about halfway through, but the super cute embroidered art at the beginning is totally worth the watch as well, and would be a great way to decorate your yoga corner!

I love to include candles or an essential oil diffuser, my favorite yoga mat, a piece or two of art or photos that are sentimental to me, and my journals and favorite books nearby! One of my favorite reads (if you can excuse the title) is The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. Perhaps not very zen of me, but so life changing! I read it a few years ago for the first time, and just picked up a hardcover copy to re-read. Put on Your Favorite Activewear & Do Your Thing!

Okay darling! You have your gorgeous yoga corner all set up. Your mat is rolled up, your journals are nearby. Your candles are ready to be lit! It's time to put on your favorite dancewear, yoga clothes, or activewear, and spend some time stretching and breathing!
