The Easiest DIY Garden Potting Bench | Spring Garden Prep

My Easy Potting Garden Bench Makeover for My Spring Garden!

The first step in my spring garden prep for my cutting flower & vegetable garden was to set up a DIY garden potting bench. I'm not the handiest of persons when it comes to power tools, so I was super excited to be able to put together a potting bench out of hallway trees/mudroom benches I found on my community's yard sale page!

I still remember clearly the first garden I ever planted. Well, I guess you could call it a garden. It was more like a square foot of radish seeds thrown willy nilly across the soil. However for a little kid at the time, it was magical. I remember trying my first radish, and admittedly being slightly disappointed that it wasn't more delicious. It was a *gasp* vegetable, after all. Now, I can appreciate a good radish. Then...not so much.

This year, I'm finally getting to dip my toes into a long held dream of planting a cutting flower garden. I have wanted to do this for so long. Of course I decided I was going to do this up right, I would need my very own potting bench. And inspiration struck when I saw these hallway trees/mud room/shoe benches listed on our local yard sale page.

You guys, I'd been looking for something like this for SO long. For them to pop up at just the right time, I was beyond thrilled. We ran over and grabbed them, I set them up on my front porch which is right where my garden is going to be this year. And then it was time to put it all together.

The Garden Supplies You'll NEED - No exception 😉

The links above are to the specific supplies I used, but of course shop around to find what you love best! I love using vintage or salvaged items wherever I can. While I don't have any vintage gardening tools on hand, I DID have a gorgeous vintage metal tub that I was able to use to store my potting soil in! It's been floating around my home for a few years now masquerading as a dog food container beneath my kitchen table. I'm so happy to see it in a permanent spot where it can truly shine as my garden potting bench soil container.

The Dreamy Garden Supplies You'll WANT and Should Totally Splurge On

I got myself a pair of foxglove gardening gloves that are actually based off of 1950s glove patterns. They truly are the perfect glove for gardening and they wash up so easily which is just absolutely crucial. Plus, if you've been around for a while and know my love for vintage and classic fashion, you'll know how much I love that they match pretty much all of my gardening outfits so bonus points there. I also splurged a new sun hat to take on all my gardening adventures, and a dibbler which didn't come with my initial garden tool set. Then it was time to set up the benches themselves. I placed the pots onto the bottom shelves, hung my watering can, a gathering basket on the top hooks, and my garden tools on the bottom hooks. And that was it! It was a super easy 30 minute garden potting bench! No power tools necessary.
